Big changes for the workbench coming soon, a new address!

We are looking for a new home and our offer for a house we liked has been accepted. Pending some post-inspection requests and VA appraisal we should be closing on the new home in ~30 days? Who knows the real date.. sooner the better for us of course.

Of course a workshop area was on my “must-have” list while looking. Luck would have it my wife’s favorite house came with ample workshop area. It’s apart from the house but has full power and is quite nice. It’s loaded with stuff they’re using to fix up a few items that need attention with the home. So it’s a bit messy in the photo taken here.

The new workshop will give me ~120 ft2 which is roughly half the space I have now. It’s also has some additional store space and is laid out well.

Unfortunately this move means I’ll be a little lacking on the content on the blog as I have been for a few weeks now (vacation followed by a couple weeks of house buying). I’ll be packing up much of my shop shortly, my blogging activities will be strictly writing.

The home will have some free space in which I might be able to host some hackerspace activities for the a while if there is ever interest beyond one other person. We’re located close to downtown Everett, WA. I’d like to get 4 or 5 people together as a start–as always let me know if you’re interested. Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to getting back to some quality bench time in the near future.

Snohomish County HackerSpace/MakerSpace?

My wondering is over! There is interest. Please visit to become a member online, view the meetings and workshop dates.

I wonder if there is any interest in setting up a North Seattle/SnoCo hackspace? I’m talking Lynnwood, Bothell, Everett area? Or perhaps even just an “electronics-embedded dev club” of sorts. Everything in the Seattle area is seemingly below I-90. Primary interests would be electronics, embedded development, perhaps some machining.

Send me a message or reply if you have any interest or even if you live north of Seattle and think it’s a poor idea for some reason?

The start of a hacker-friendly weekend

It’s winter and I’ve gotten a little lazy about hiking. My list of “must-hike” has shrunk and my list of “must-build” has grown… a lot. So this weekend I’ll be strapped to the bench checking out all the items I’ve gotten in the mail and then picking something to work on.

I don’t know what the normal electronics/software engineering personal “blog” gets for hits, and I imagine it has a lot to do with level of content and frequency of updates? My content level is medium-low (compared to blogs such as absorbtions) but I think I do a decent job of updating the last 8 or 9 months I’ve blogged? Wednesday, while at work, I got a weird noise out of my phone I’d never heard. I took a quick peek at my phone and it was WordPress declaring I had a very high peak of abnormal traffic. Well… it wasn’t kidding. Dangerous Prototypes latched on to my last post. I’m guessing they must get a considerable amount of traffic considering the amount of traffic they pushed to my site despite it being a topic I’d find rather niche. My typical traffic is the occasional google search leading someone new trying to get some feature of a PIC to work. Well anyways, the photo says it all.

That's not a normal week!

.. so back to the bench!

US Forest Service Website Down.. maybe they ran out of money?

Forest Service website down over missing file or missing budget?
Forest Service website down over missing file or missing budget?

The Us Forest Service website was down this morning. Perhaps a bill went unpaid, or someone accidentally deleted index.html? I guess we’ll see if they come out with an explaination or not. For now it looks like I’m SOL on road conditions in the Northern Cascades unless I want to drive up and talk to the ranger or drive a few more miles and go look for myself.

Good Riddance GoDaddy!

I’ve been so upset over GoDaddy’s horrible support. I moved my account to a company called “A Small Orange”.. what an amazing difference. I moved all my domains…,,, (Melissa’s), and others… I was experiencing 10 second load times, if it loaded. Having to attempt logons multiple times, page timeouts.. you name it.

I’ll let them host my domains. I like their interface but they have to have the worst hosting service I’ve ever seen… so I pay $1.01 more a month for bliss. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
